Great Expectations was designed with our guests comfort and privacy in mind! Our St John villa floor plan allows for guests to have lots of opportunity to gather together at one of the common spaces (e.g. Great Room, pool and BBQ patio area, hot tub and hammocks, basketball and tennis court) or have your own piece of quiet paradise with very private bedrooms and patios and quiet areas with hammocks and comfy chairs.
Because the Great Room is separate from the bedrooms people can hoot and holler in the Great Room not disturb those sleeping in the bedrooms. We believe you will find our Great Room furnished to comfortably accommodate your group. Our kitchen is stocked with spices, plenty of glassware and dishes for your group and, of course lots of pots and pans for all your cooking needs.
We have a 48" Stainless Steel Sub-zero refrigerator and Commercial grade Scottman Icemaker which will keep up with even the needs of the largest groups.
Our dining table, picnic table just outside the Great Room, foldaway table and chairs, and barstools provide lots of dining seating capacity.
We are fully IPod, IPhone, and MP3 capatable so you can just plug in your device to our indoor and outdoor speaker system and enjoy your (or our) tunes. Or, if you are interested in watching TV - the big game - or your favorite DVD just sit back and enjoy our 60" Sharp LED High-Def TV. The choice is yours.
If you want to get up for an early morning cup of coffee and watch the sunrise out of the Caribbean Sea without bothering those wanting some more shut-eye in the their bedrooms, enjoy the Great Room patio.
Each of the 4 villa bedrooms is spacious, has fabulous views, the privacy of its own patio, your own large bathroom with a romantic outdoor shower (don't worry you can see the sea but they can't see you!). Each of the main villa bedrooms has a king bed which, if requested, can be separated into two extra long twin beds. The bedrooms are oriented to take advantage of the cooling, and almost always constantly blowing, tradewinds. Air-conditioning in each bedroom is available although hardly ever needed.
The Villa has 4 air-conditioned bedrooms each furnished with a 'California' (extra long) King bed which can be converted into 2 Twin beds. 
Each bedroom has its own private bathroom with a double sink vanity and an indoor/outdoor shower. All of the bedrooms have spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea with outdoor patios on both the east and west sides. As many as 8 adults can be accommodated in these 4 spacious bedrooms which are sufficiently large (20' by 12' interior plus bathroom and walk-in closet) so that porta-cribs for infants and a foldaway bed for a child can be placed in any of these bedrooms. 
Each of the bedrooms has a wall safe, ceiling fan, and is tastefully decorated. The furniture in the bedrooms is all teak, custom-made in Bali. Each bedroom has architecturally designed skylights, transoms, sofit lighting, and cypress cathedral ceiling. Very, very nice!
THE GUEST HOUSE (aka Beau Geste)
(accommodates 6+ persons)
The 2-story, air-conditioned Guest House (also known as Beau Geste) has 2 bedrooms both of which are furnished with Queen-size beds and futons for additional sleeping accommodations if needed (the Queen bed in the upstairs Owners Suite is extra firm). The first floor bedroom is exactly the same size as one of the 4 Main Villa bedrooms. The upstairs Owners Suite which is the same size as the Villa Great Room is twice as big as the other 5 bedrooms since it also has its own kitchen, living and dining area and laundry (washer/dryer). Both bedrooms in the Guest House have their own private bathrooms with indoor/outdoor showers just like the Main Villa bedrooms. THE CLUB ROOM (accommodates 1-2 persons)An additional 1 adult or 2 teenagers can sleep in The Club Room Room which is about half the size of the one of the five bedrooms described above. The Club Room, located by the stairs leading to the basketball and tennis court, is furnished with a trundle bed which opens into 2 Twin-size beds (one bed collapses and stores under the other bed). The Club Room has a ceiling fan, air-conditioner and a private bathroom with a fitness-club-sized shower. It has a television and a DVD player with exercise DVDs and exercise equipment: a NordicTrack CX938 Elliptical machine; The Step by Hometrainer (adjustable from 4" to 6"); a Bollinger thick cushioned foam Cloth Exercise Mat for aerobic and floor exercises; and, a complete 32 pound set of Bollinger dumbbells (one pair each of 3lb, 5lb and 8 lb). Very practical space.
The entire Great Expectations compound including the Guest House has seven bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms offers flexibility in its configuration (e.g. one bed or two) with the goal of configuring the property to meet the needs of your group. While we have a total of seven bedrooms our rates are only based on the number of bedrooms used, assuming double occupancy.
Great Expectations was designed by the award-winning, Boston architect John Sloan whose vacation rental villas can be found elsewhere in the Caribbean and Hawaii. It was built in 1998-9 by Bill Osborn, one of the finest builders of vacation rental homes on St. John. The excellence of their work is reflected by the fact that both John Sloan and Bill Osborn studied earlier in their careers at the Harvard University School of Design. Thanks to them, Great Expectations is framed by the extraordinary "double" east/west views afforded this remarkable site.

Have all the benefits of our main St John villa Great Expectations but sized just for 2 or 4 adults (or up to 6 people if you bring kids along). Our St John guest house, Beau Geste, is totally separate from the main villa and you can enjoy the same fabulous sunrise (right out of the Caribbean without leaving your deck) as those folks at the villa next door. You will even have your own swimming pool and hot tub, BBQ grill, hammocks, and WiFi.

The 'Owner's Suite' (accommodates 2+ persons)
The top floor of the Guest House consists of the 'Owner's Suite'. This is a very large (20' by 24' interior), air-conditioned efficiency apartment the size of the Great Room in the Villa. It has a Queen-size four poster bed with a spectacular view looking east of Hart Bay/Rendezvous Bay and the US National Park along the south shore of St. John. The living area facing west with a view of Chocolate Hole harbor has a futon which opens into a full size bed. It is equipped with a telephone, cable TV with DVD player and an AM/FM stereo with CD player and built-in wall speakers. It has a cathedral ceiling with skylights, halogen track and sofit lighting, transoms and ceiling fan. It has its own bathroom with double sink vanities, bidet, and indoor/outdoor shower. It has a full kitchen, washer and dryer, as well as outdoor decks on both the east and west sides, a stainless steel outdoor barbecue grill, and an enclosed swimming pool and hot tub for lots of privacy. This is where we stay when we are on St. John so you know it is very nice!
THE GUEST BEDROOM (accommodates 2+ persons)
The first floor bedroom in the Guest House is the same size (20' by 12' interior) as the 4 bedrooms in the Main Villa. Like the Main Villa bedrooms, the Guest Bedroom has a ceiling fan, is air-conditioned and has a private bathroom with a double sink vanity and an indoor/outdoor shower (it also has a small Caribbean stone bath tub which my mother insisted on). The downstairs bedroom in the Guest House is furnished with a Queen-size bed and two futons (one futon opens into a full size bed and the other into a twin size bed). This room has a flat screen television with DVD player, coffeemaker, toaster oven and small refrigerator! It has patios on both the east and west sides with its own hammock hanging under its very own palm tree (complete with coconuts) and some banana trees (with real bananas for the picking, unless the staff have eaten them all). This was my mother's favorite room; cool, quiet and private!
