Car barge service is available between Redhook, St. Thomas and Cruz Bay, St. John seven days a week, year round. Currently, there are three independently run barge companies that transport cars and trucks. Taxis are currently not allowed on the Vehicle Barge. Passengers ride with car or truck at no extra charge. It is recommend that you arrive at least 15 to 30 minutes prior to departure. The Port Authority charges a Port Fee of $3 for cars, small and medium SUVs and motorcycles. For pick-up trucks, vans and large SUVs the charge is $4. The fee is collected at the Red Hook Ferry Dock on St. Thomas (who sit in a little house just before you enter the barge parking area). Because schedules often change we strongly advise that you call in advance to confirm the current schedule and current rates.

If you end up getting to the barge area after the last barge has left for St John for the day the best thing to do is to find a LEGITIMATE parking spot (more about that in a moment), take the passenger ferry to St John where you can enjoy yourself for the evening, then return to St Thomas by passenger ferry the next morning to retrieve your vehicle.
We understand that the VI police are serious about ticketing, booting, and even towing cars that are not parked in authorized spaces so it is worth the effort to secure your car appropriately for the evening. You can pay to park at the Ferry Terminal Parking Lot or at Menica's Parking Lot (340 774-0060) for $10/day. Menica's is located at the top of the hill just behind Marina's Market (across the street and about 100 yards to the west from the Ferry Terminal building). They often have a jitney service running back and forth to the Ferry Terminal.
