How to get from St Thomas to St John

Start your vacation as you approach the beautiful island of St John by sea

St Thomas St John ferry
St Thomas - St John ferry

The Red Hook ferry from St Thomas to St John runs every hour from early morning until midnight. You can literally see the island from St Thomas since it is only about 4 miles away, and, a lovely 20 minute ferry ride.

St John ferry attendant
St John ferry attendant, Genesis, will help get you from here to there (with a smile)

If the weather is nice (and it almost always is) try sitting up top in the open air to  enjoy the views. Depending on the time of day or night, the ferry is often busy with carrying those who travel between islands for school, work, and, of course, play so you will encounter a wide combination of people both local and not-so-local. Always be-friend your seatmate with the traditional St Johnian custom of 'Good day' and you will find a new friend (and might learn something about our islands).

St Thomas - St John USVI ferry schedule

If you are a bit more adventurous and like the open seas, you might take the ferry to or from Charlotte Amalie, 'downtown' St Thomas. This ferry ride tends to take about 40 minutes and if a calm day can be a great way of getting out on the water.  Warning though for those with queasy stomachs, if the seas are rough this one is not for you!
