Can't we just hire those colorful truck taxis?
A lot of our guests ask us "can we not just ride around in taxis all week?"...and we answer - sure, IF you don't mind waiting - and waiting -and, did I mention waiting for your taxi. It is manana time on St John. A car is a MUST HAVE whether you are staying at Great Expectations or (yikes) another villa, to see, explore, and enjoy St John a rental car is a must. There is a good reason why in 10 years no guests have not rented a vehicle while staying on St John!
However, when you do want to arrange for a taxi, say when you all want to go into town for dinner and enjoy that glass of wine without worrying about driving home, if you are patient, there are taxis to be hired. The island taxi is usually actually a safari type open flat-bed truck with bench seating and canvas top. Fun for a group, albeit a bit nerve-wracking if you have little ones since there are usually no seat belts to be found!
